Juspay Illustration System

  • 24 hrs → 2 hrs per cover
  • 80+ posts in 6 months

A scalable illustration system built for Juspay’s blog: hero covers, spot diagrams and a shared asset library. The goal was to build a system that ensures consistency, flexibility and faster content production.

Role:
Visual Designer
Scope:
Illustration System, Guidelines, Asset Library
Collaborators:
Prasha Roy (Visual Designer)

The problem

Colour structure

Monochromatic palettes ensure clarity and consistency. Neutrals maintain focus, while analogous accents add controlled variation.

Materials

Materials create hierarchy and emphasis.

A metal cube on a dark grid
MetalMetal is used to represent servers, abstractions of Juspay products, processors, data units etc.
A glass cube on a dark grid
GlassGlass is reserved for depicting screens, UI elements or icons.
A glowing neon cube on a dark grid
NeonA glowing focus on detail to highlight a direction.

Modular objects represent key concepts across topics.

Spot illustrations

When an article runs long, a spot illustration breaks the scroll and explains one idea at a glance.

Spot illustration: a payment routed between processors
Spot illustration: alternative payment methods on phones
Spot illustration: payment observability chart
Spot illustration: tokenisation across four screens
Spot illustration: network token eligibility
Spot illustration: checkout with local payment methods

Design pivots

Directions we tried, and why they didn’t make the system.

Trial cover: tokenization on a pale background
Pale, flat backgrounds read like UI screenshots and lost the depth the covers needed.
Trial cover: an outline cart with warning signs
Clear, but generic. An outline cart could belong to any brand.
Trial cover: a logo ring on near-black
Near-black and neon stood apart from the blue, green and purple families.
Trial cover: a card beside lines of code
Too literal and text-heavy to read at thumbnail size.

System in action

Adapted across 80+ blog posts, improving consistency and reducing illustration turnaround time.
